Overall a great book to own but...

This book could have easily been 3 or 4 books. I bought "How to Draw Incredible Comic Book Women" by Tom Nguyen first and I have to say that it was a bit more in depth than this. Don't get me wrong, it's a great book to own but Tom tried to cover too many subjects that just could not be covered in one book alone. For example, foreshortening was discussed in one tiny space in the entire book. This is a pretty important subject in comics as it's used in almost every panel to create action in the comic book world!

I would ignore the people who complained about his joking or lack of professionalism. It's written in a way that's easy to understand and down to earth. Tom comes off as a regular Joe that knows his stuff. He tries to make the reader feel that art should be fun. It reminded me of "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way" by Stan Lee and John Buscema. If that book annoyed you, don't buy "Incredible Comics".

While reading it, I was pleasantly surprised to see women and men drawn by "an artist" then, in the next panel Tom would discuss all his/her short comings. He would present his rendition of the same subject, in a similar pose, and finally discuss what and what not to do. The differences were huge!

It certainly does try to show you comic book basics and the pitfalls of other less informed artists. Unlike other books, where the artist seems to be more about showcasing his drawing skills (look what I can do!) than trying to give you first hand information and instructions on how this or that is done and more importantly, why. Or, the artists that assume you already know anatomy and go from a stick figure to a completed drawing in two panels with no discussion concerning muscle, development, orientation, location, etc...

I'm very happy with the book overall but only give it 4 stars because it left me wanting more.

Great Art Teacher! Leave Humor Out....

This is a pretty nice book according to drawing comics in pencil and ink. It has all the basic informations about drawing comics in general. BUT.... something was missing.... It was the COLORING! How do you finish your work without color? It looks black and white, and nearly 90% of people won't read your black/white comics, because people will think it's "unfinished". You have to find "how to color" somewhere here on the internet, unfortunately, because he doesn't explain anything how to COMPLETE your book in coloring.

I can see he was trying to be humorous throughout this book, but he was just flat-out un-funny. He has some sort of an immature humor in here, and sometimes they can be insulting to you as a reader in general. Plus it kinda hurt the book making it seem child-ish. So one point taken down for lame humor, skipping the details in how to color, and bad quality design of each page making them look like they're for ten year olds. I think that's what he was trying to do? I know I'm being pretty brutal, but that's how I felt when I read this book.

What I love about this book is his "Don't" and "Do" category explaining what you should draw and what you should NOT draw. That was definitely a fun read! All his art and explaining how to draw exactly what you want are very good. You won't be disappointed. I guarantee you. The problem is the design of the pages around his drawings, they made this book look like it's only for childeren. That's one flaw in this book including his weird humor. It's just hard to explain.

Again, this is a very good "how to draw comics" book. It will be worth your money to get it. Just beware of weird feeling of "Am I reading a childeren's book?".

Very Inspiring Stories

Perseverance isn't the only thing required for goal achievement, or 'success'. But without it, we never achieve much. And sometimes, the ability to keep trying in the face of opposition or reversal is the only weapon we have, and it can be enough.
While many of the stories of success Michal and Jeanie recount involved some luck, drive and clear vision, perseverance is always an element. And the stories are inspiring anyway!
I like the breadth of stories chosen. There are people from many countries and cultures, who faced a lot of very different challenges. It's a great read.

I could not stop reading! His message of perseverance is made even more compelling by the creative mix of people from long ago to today, people we instantly know and people we never heard of, and the vast assortment of personal obstacles each had to over come. Michal's perseverance “voice” is one of his strongest and this collaborative research for inspiring stories certainly made my day and made me imagine reading one story a day to students everywhere! This should be required reading in school! As his stories will out, there is no deadline for following dreams and making them a reality! Well done!

I really love this author! He has a unique gift in presenting clear and motivational information that truly inspires. These stories are really terrific examples of what you can do when you keep at it and never give up. I have every one of this author's books. When I feel my energy dropping, I can pick up any one of the persistence and success books and turn to any page. There I am guaranteed to find something that will lift my spirits and get me going. This book is particularly easy to read. It was really engaging to read the stories. I found myself reading a lot later than I meant to because I didn't want to miss a single thing! Thank you Michal Stawicki for another great addition to your collection of inspirational books!!

Es un libro que explica muchos procesos para trabajar en cs6 de una manera muy efectiva, el nivel es intermedio y debes tener cierta experiencia con photoshop, la mayoria de las fotos mostradas son de cuba al menos lo que vi a simple vista, esta dividido en capitulos por tema en los cuales se utilizan imagenes con la explicacion paso a paso y es imposible perderse, los temas que abarca son muchos, como reemplezar fondos, ajustar detalles que no queremos en la foto, editar paisajes, personas etc. no es necesario leerlo en orden.

El autor no pretende imponer su estilo en ninguno momento si no que da recomendaciones de como realizar la edición, es posible que no te guste su estilo de fotografiar pero aun asi es muy útil, aquí definitivamente no vas a encontrar muchas fotos de modelos despampanantes tomadas con muchos flashes para la portada de una revista de modas, mas bien son fotos trabajadas con personas comunes y corrientes. son temas que en general quizas obviamos y es necesario saber, este libro simplemente hay que tenerlo.

About the Author

Franz Kafka was born to Jewish parents in Bohemia in 1883. Kafka s father was a luxury goods retailer who worked long hours and as a result never became close with his son. Kafka s relationship with his father greatly influenced his later writing and directly informed his Brief an den Vater (Letter to His Father). Kafka had a thorough education and was fluent in both German and Czech. As a young man, he was hired to work at an insurance company where he was quickly promoted despite his desire to devote his time to writing rather than insurance. Over the course of his life, Kafka wrote a great number of stories, letters, and essays, but burned the majority of his work before his death and requested that his friend Max Brod burn the rest. Brod, however, did not fulfill this request and published many of the works in the years following Kafka s death of tuberculosis in 1924. Thus, most of Kafka s works were published posthumously, and he did not live to see them recognized as some of the most important examples of literature of the twentieth century. Kafka s works are considered among the most significant pieces of existentialist writing, and he is remembered for his poignant depictions of internal conflicts with alienation and oppression. Some of Kafka s most famous works include The Metamorphosis, The Trial and The Castle.

Frustrating to no end - literally

Ok, Kafka is never a pleasurable read, but this book is utter garbage. I had to stop reading midway through or I'd have thrown my Kindle against a wall in frustration. Not only is it obvious he has never visited the country he so confidently yet so amateurishly describes, but his protagonist is utterly dumb (as in unintelligent) and completely helpless. There is no reward to the hard work of reading this - the book is unfinished and devoid of any meaning.
I say, stick with his metaphorical works - Der Prozess, Die Verwandlung,... The only thing this book represents is Kafka's uncanny ability to frustrate the reader.

Absolutely awesome to read about a different dimension that the elves are in. They are very much like angels, fairies, unicorn and dragons.--human creativity!

Can I just say that I'm really glad the fad of writing fairy tales as poems died out over a hundred years ago? I mean, these weren't bad, and I don't mind occasionally reading poetry, but I just can't see it as being that exciting, and I'm overjoyed that the market isn't flooded with these things.

I did get an extra kick of amusement out of these by having my kindle's read-to-me program read them to me. The kindle has rather a flair for poetry, although I felt it missed the proper emphasis on some of the lines.

This book contains a bunch of fairy tales or epics rewritten in verse. There is no active Table of Contents and the footnotes are unlinked, but there are no other formatting errors.

This is basically a 'bathroom reader' comprised of 1-2 minute ...

This is basically a 'bathroom reader' comprised of 1-2 minute reads. I found little that I didn't already know, but I'm 62 and have been reading the papers since my teens. It's heavy on Nazi stuff and hardly has anything to indicate women exist in any other form than spies and whores. It would probably have been a hit if published in 1955.
