About the Author

Kimberly A. Miller-Spillman, PhD, is Director of Graduate Studies and Associate Professor in the Merchandising, Apparel, and Textiles Department of the University of Kentucky. She is a member of American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS), International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) and Costume Society of America (CSA) and chaired the symposium committee for CSA Southeastern Region at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill in 2011. She has been involved with the Ghana Study Abroad program at UK since 2010.

Andrew Reilly, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Apparel Product Design and Merchandising at University of Hawai`i, Manoa where he teaches courses on merchandising and social-psychological aspects of fashion and dress. He is principal editor of Critical Studies in Men's Fashion, and a member of the editorial board of Fashion and Popular Culture. He is also co-editor of The Men's Fashion Reader (Fairchild, 2008). He is a member of the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA).

Patricia Hunt-Hurst, PhD, is an Associate Professor and head of the Textiles, Merchandising, and Interiors Department at The University of Georgia. She teaches courses on the history of fashion and dress, fashion and the movies, and fundamentals of fashion. She had been involved with the Interdisciplinary Ghana Study Abroad program at UGA since 2001. Hunt-Hurst is a member of the Costume Society of America (CSA) and the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA).

Very good purchase! Excellent book...!

I bought this book for one of my college courses. So far is really good; very informative and up to date. It is easy to read and it goes to the point. I really like the fact that includes so many cases at the end of each chapter which makes the reading more enjoyable. I'm giving 4 starts instead of 5 because the images are in black and white. I expected full color images since I paid $80.00 for it and because it is a book about dress.

This book is well written and interesting, but very out dated. It explains the meaning and feelings behind why and what people buy, very important for any designer.

Terrible Binding

Currently at this moment I'm working on getting a refund on this book. The binding of this book is terrible and could cost you the full price of the book. Luckily since Amazon's customer service can help remedy the problem since renters can inform Amazon about problems.

But if you plan on buying the book don't expect it to last more than a week even if it's brand new. At college literally (and I mean actually literally no exaggeration) every student in my fashion class who had the book was falling apart by the second week of class, even the teacher's copy was falling apart.

The material with in the book is good stuff and can be an interesting read in of itself and the shipping was fast but the book itself tears apart so easily that you will be absolutely baffled. I'm not sure if you can get a digital copy of the book but if you getting a physical copy expect it to fall apart or be prepared to return it very soon. If you are getting this book for reading pleasure I highly recommend that you find another book on a related topic and avoid the hassle of it's terrible binding.

I'm not sure if there is a digital version of this book but if you can get it go for it because digital copies don't have binding problems.

I was very disappointed - after reading 'The Unforgiven' I expected to really enjoy anything written by Alan Lemay, but this book did not engage me - I'd say, skip this one and read 'The Unforgiven'; it is an incredible book - I could not put it down.

Telling it how it is... or was

I had been having questions about the life of Jesus, and I ran into some videos of Tina Louise Spalding. She channels Jesus and many of the things she talked about seemed much more true than what I had been thought in church and from family and friends. I follow the teachings of Buddha and I believe in something like Cosmic Intelligence, or the Laws of the Universe, but since I have been raised Roman Catholic, I always run into one or two issues that deal with the Catholic faith. The book definitively deals with Jesus' life, appropriately starting before conception, and past his crucifixion. But he doesn't just stop telling us the story of his life. He also takes the opportunity to impart his teachings, not the RC church's teachings, as well as explaining the laws of the Universe.

This book is best understood if you are familiar with New Age terms like law of attraction, past life, incarnation, channeling, abundance, etc. Also, Jesus touches controversial topics like death, sexuality, abortion, drugs, Mary Magdalene, immaculate conception, etc. This is not a mainstream read or biblical study material, instead it is a rebel yell to make you wake up! A very good book indeed.

This book was amazing. Thank you Tina Spalding for being brave enough to share this information. I was so curious and knew there was so much more to the life of Jesus. This book contained many of the answers I was in search of and provided answers to questions I did not even think to ask. If you are curious about the life of Jesus this book has the answers. I recommend it to anyone in search of the truth.

It's so refreshing to finally get more of the truth. After having read the Bible cover to cover multiple times, I've noticed that there is so much conflicting information. I had so many questions about what Jesus' real purpose was on Earth, and this book answered many of them.

Nice book

This is a really nice book that covers a lot of ground on stochastic operations research. It is one of those rare books that present difficult matter as if it were very easy to understand. A nice effort has been made to simplify ideas that really are not simple. You will find in-depth discussions on Markov chains, renewal theory (both elementary and advanced), queueing theory, and Markov Decision Processes. What I liked is (i) the thoroughness with which topics have been treated and (ii) that the book does present many important topics that other introductory books just fail to cover (e.g., semi-Markov decision process with an LP formulation, GI/G/1 queues). And the book is at the beginner graduate level!

Worst...math...text...EVER!

This was the assigned text for an upper-level graduate course I took in Advanced Operations Research. My classmates and I despised it. It's disjointed, inconsistent, with unilluminating, half-worked examples (when there are any examples at all). Even the PhD candidates denounced it as unreadable. All of us wound up buying alternative texts to get through the course, and so will you if you waste your money on this book. Grade = NO STARS!

Should have been a series

The Black Shrike is a competent thriller by Alistair MacLean. Like many of his novels, the writing is a bit dated. Still it's a good mystery with enough twists to keep you guessing.

With the success of Ian Fleming's James Bond series, every writer in the 60s tried his hand at writing a spy series. The Black Shrike is MacLean's attempt. It's a good attempt. When eight scientists and their wives go missing after answering an ad for employment in Australia, John Bentall and a female agent are recruited to play husband and wife and sent off to find out what happened.

What follows is mystery in a thriller with exotic locations and double agents where nothing and nobody are what they seem.

Had this been the start of a series, MacLean might be better known today.

While some have appeared in other forms I found it an intriguing and original selection that was very well told. Alas, there are no Dulac illustrations. Even in miniature black and white that would have been a bonus.

Reviews do not match digital book

There are no illustrations in this digital book only bookmarks where an illustration should have been. Also the publisher, Library of Alexandria, states in the description that there is an interactive table of contents and this is not true. I was disappointed in this purchase. Gave it 3 stars for the stories though I have not read them yet.
