Bad Cover - Good Book

This book is a good case for not judging a book by its cover. At first glance it looks like some sensational rag by some conspiracy nut cases. Too bad, because this is an important and well researched book. It is one of the first I have read to examine in-depth the consequences of newest technology on humanity, especially transhumanism. Genetics, robotics, artificial intelligence and nanotechnology, called GRIN technologies in this book, are challenging our definition of what it is to be human. When does what was once human in God's image cease to even have a soul? GRIN can transform human beings into a transhuman creatures that resemble the Nephilim of the Bible, the progeny of fallen supernatural beings. Scary stuff, yet well researched and footnoted. Some parts get a little off topic (genetically modified food), but overall great. I highly recommend reading it.

disturbing topic

It is not until page 125 that the authors actually begin to deliver on the title of the book.

The material in the remaining 168 pages is interesting and on-topic. What it is pointing to is disturbing and though it is above board it is yet flying below the radar. Meaning no secret agenda by the human race, their intentions are fully explained and gaining exceptional traction. People will not be able to accurately claim this was all a hidden conspiracy. The Satanic motivation and end game is also not secret, simply read Revelation 13 for example.

The website they steer the reader to in order to get some free books and articles on related subject matter is not user-friendly. In fact two of the books that the reader is supposed to be able to download as a PDF I was unable to locate after thirty minutes scouring page after page of items for me to purchase. I contacted the website but have not received a reply or acknowledgement of receipt of my email and that was roughly 16 hours ago.

I suggest buying the book and start on page 125.

I suggest that the author:
1. not occupy pages of a book with fluff (ex. quotes from one's own fictional work)
2. revamp your namesake website - it is not user friendly nor eye friendly. You need to decide if your message of the website is about the subject matter or selling your products. I suggest a separate site for selling your products and only have one mention/link to it on the front page of the title's namesake website. Make the subject matter the focus; documentation, sources - and do it in a manner that is friendly to the eyes.
3. Provide a bibliography of books, scholarly-vetted journal articles and news stories (a-source material) for readers to do further.(Kudos for including a notes section in your book)
4. Get to the point (the first 124 pages of filler - these pages actually had very little if anything to do with the main subject matter).

I love deep thinkers who do their research!

This is a very serious book for spiritual warriors of this day and age. It is not New Age, but exposes the tactics of the enemy. When God lifts the veil that blinds us to what is really happening in our world, it is alarming --and the depths of the rabbit hole is beyond anything we can grasp. Learn the art and warfare of prayer. This book is astonishing. My husband and I fight over reading it:) It ties things together well.

Dr. Craig Davies is the director of nutrition and fitness for the Core Golf Academy at Orange County National in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Davies developed the golf exercise specialist and golf performance therapist certifications through Golf Performance Therapy, a company he cofounded, which is dedicated to providing complete physical analysis, cutting-edge performance therapy, fitness program design, and nutrition consulting for golfers. He was the keynote speaker at the inaugural Canadian National Golf Performance Summit in 2007 and is a Nike golf fitness mentor. Dr. Davies was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, and now resides in Orlando, Florida.�

Dr. Vince DiSaia is a strength and conditioning specialist and chiropractor specializing in fitness and therapy for elite golf performance. He received his level 2 certification as a medical golf fitness professional through the Titleist Performance Institute. Dr. DiSaia is cofounder of Triple Dynamix, Inc., a company that provides instructional DVD exercise programs for rehabilitating or strengthening the most commonly injured areas of the body. He has worked with amateur as well as touring professionals, including those on the Futures, LPGA, Asian, Japan, and PGA tours.

Dr. DiSaia has also been KVest certified, which allows him to capture and analyze 3-D imaging of the golf swing. Positive and Negative Review

By my nature and by choice, I strive to be positive whenever possible. I begin this review with some positive points before changing direction. It might be helpful to know I hold multiple degrees in sports science ... biomechanics/kinesiology and motor learning. My personal library includes more than 1,000 golf related books and numerous graduate level textbooks. I coached a nationally ranked NCAA Division I golf team and have sold golf lessons to more than 10,000 paying clients over the last 30 years. BEFORE writing this critique, I took the time to read all of the other reviews.

In fairness to the authors, I purchased their book because of the pretty picture on the front cover as well as the organization of the table of contents. I completely agree with other reviewers who found this book to be an excellent fitness book. There is little doubt any person who engages in the contents will be more fit and able to play better golf ... stronger, more flexible, more stable, in better balance and less prone to injury!

The overall organization of the book is excellent. It logically and correctly flows through the necessary progress for improved strength and flexibility being precursors for improved balance, stability and injury resistance. The authors correctly write about how the golf swing and the teaching of the game have improved due to technology (high speed cameras and biomechanics labs). The largest change has been from a hand and arm dominated viewpoint to a "big muscle", body centered motion which sums forces in a kinetically linked chain. Moving from the ancient to the modern creates a need to better understand how the body, not the arms must function.

Having said these positive things, it is also necessary to point out some problems with the book. Ben Hogan's Five Fundamentals, the de facto bible of golf, is filled with both good and bad information. The effort to write a perfect text will probably never be accomplished. Knowing there are problems does not negate the value of the overall message.

The problems begin with the sometimes exclusive, imprecise language. In spite of the quality of the illustrations, there is also problems with what the pictures and their callouts say. Some technical jargon is not sufficiently explained for the common use of everyday golfers ... mobility v. flexibility. Exclusive language comes from changing commonly used terms such as backswing into their use of upswing. This is written one-upmanship and marketing to a target audience of "hip", fit golfers rather than ordinary golfers. Some of the things written are simply wrong. The identification of primary v. secondary muscle usage is not supported by commonly held views from electromyographical research.

While the golf swing may technically come from the ground up in a physics lab, the game is not played in a lab. Looking at the golf swing from a biomechanical view, you pay more attention to which muscles move first (sequence of that kinetic link system), which muscles are prime movers (antagonists), secondary movers, stabilizers (antagonists) and which muscles remain in a state of tonus (normal, semi-relaxed/activated state). I drew a conclusion that this book places more value to reflex responses than to learned motor programs.

There are two major problems with the illustrations. First, the views and callouts do NOT always matchup. For example, Fig 1.1 on p. 6 is completely bassackwards. The muscles shown on the back and left side of your body CANNOT cause you turn away from the ball. Close attention to technical detail would have rendered this image to be a back view, showing the muscles of the back and right shoulder as the prime movers of the rotary motion of the backswing. The identification of the trunk muscles are correct except for being on the wrong side of the body. A muscle can only create force when it shortens/contracts. Even a cursory look by an ordinary reader shows how the backswing must start on the back and right side of the body.

It is the turning, rotary movement of the upper torso and the shoulder that cause the arms to move in coordination with the body. Again, these muscles are on the back side of the body. Figure 1.3 on page 8 correctly identifies the muscles, but is equally wrong as to which side is causing the movement. There are to two phases to the forward swing (acceleration/downswing to impact and decelleration/followthrough). The muscles that do produce force, change their roles, switching from agonistic force producers to antagonistic counter force. Exercise alone will NOT properly train the swing. Exercise supports learned performance, it does not create it.

The second problem is with the identification of primary and secondary force producers. The author's fitness perspective confuses some important truth. They orrectly write of the kinematic linkage and of the proper use of the trunk/core muscles. However, electromyopraphical studies do not support the use of the legs as a power source. The primary role of both the arms and legs is to provide stability and control. Said differently, the golf motion is more of a "sling" than a swing. This implies they should be trained differently.

While Golf Anatomy us excellent for overall fitness, some if witch relates to golf, it violates critical principles from motor learning science ... specificity of training or "practice like you play"! These general fitness exercises are NOT the best way to improve you golf performance. There is a better way to train for skill!

A must have for any golfer!

I am a Pilates instructor who specializes in corrective exercise. I've been using this program with my golfing clients who suffer from chronic back pain, stiffness, restrictions in the hips, etc. and the results are amazing! They've seen improvements in all aspects of their game. I especially like the diagrams and the way each exercises targets specific aspects of the golf swing. This program will improve your overall strength and fitness which will not only affect your game but your quality of life as well!

I'm a PGA golf professional and Titleist Performance Institute Certified instructor. I find this book to be very accurate and illustrations are very clear. They break down the different topics in a very clear manner. If you follow this exercise manual you will make some great improvement. Two keys are flexibility with stability. This covers both and combines them to make your time more efficient. Great book!

A great primer and reference text for simulation modelling

Whether you are attempting Monte Carlo simulation for the first time or have plenty of practical experience, Vose's book is the best text available.

Vose has done a great job providing a brief but solid introduction to probability and statistics. It also serves as a great practical reference for the details and applications of all of the commonly used probability distribution functions.

He expertly summarizes each of the main steps a modeller will face in developing a model, providing very practical examples with helpful figures illustrating exactly how to implement the example in a spreadsheet.

The introduction could be improved by describing the context of his book, largerly directed towards cost analysis of projects, in the very broad field of Quantiative Risk Analysis. If I could add a section to the book, I would devote a chapter to common errors committed by the novice modeller. Minor criticisms aside, I do not hesitate in recommending this book as a reference for experts. I think it provides the fastest route up the learning curve for the novice modeller.

An excellent introduction to risk analysis

Vose's book "Quantitative Risk Analysis; A Guide to Monte Carlo Simulation Modelling" is an excellent introduction to practical quantitative risk analysis.

The book is written in a clear and concise style, refreshing to read and easy to assimilate. The text is practical and techniques are illustrated with useful, practical examples.The book has proven immensely useful in my work.

The text is marred by a number of typographical errors, 9 by my count. These typos are a reflection on the typesetting and editing rather than on the technical value of this excellent book.

I have no hesitation in recommending Vose's "Quantitative Risk Analysis" to anyone who wants to learn about the application of Monte Carlo simulation modelling to problems of risk analysis.

An excellent guide and primer - clear and concise.

This text provides an excellent primer for those interested in the field of Monte Carlo modelling, but without a strong background in mathematics/statistics. The text is extremely concise and well expressed, and leads the reader through each aspect of quantitative risk analysis without burdening him/her with unnecessary detail nor explanation.
I believe that this book will prove to be tremendously useful for all those approaching the subject of quantitative risk analysis, or those who wish to be able to better understand the results of analyses conducted by others. Sam Beckett, Massey University, New Zealand

I have the cds already and got some new ones because one of the cds I have is scratched unfortunately :(.If you get these cds I highly recommed getting the book as well.It doesn't hurt to have the archetype card deck and game to.Caroline talks alot about the archetypes people have archetype personalities which include the prostitute,the pirate and caroline has a story about a woman with a pirate archetype which I like,the queen,the wounded child and more.I highly recommed getting this and the book to find out about the different archetypes and how to uncover your own archetypes as well.

For me personally this book is life-changing. It brought everything that is going on with me and around me into perspective. It helped me understand why certain people have treated me the way that they have and why I have treated people the way that I have. I'm working on my archetypal wheel now along with my therapist. This is probably one of the hardest things to do but will definitely be the most rewarding

A Small Gem

This small gem of a book celebrates the oft-ignored value of the commonplace. The author uses her perceptive view of nature, in this case the avian population of urban Toronto, to comment upon more profound facets of daily life.
Her own accompanying ink drawings are whimsical complements to her thoughtful prose and are interspersed with appropriate nature photography.
Although the book flows rapidly through the year it will linger in the reader's mind and lends itself to multiple readings.

A joy to read

Birds Art Life is a charming and intriguing book. The author records her bird walks with a mentor. Their relationship gives an aura of mystery to the narrative. The author learns to listen and observe birds. Birds Art Life is also full of details from books the author has read. It made me want to also read those books. Although the book has a sad theme--the aging of her father--the narrative is life-affirming.

Life, death, and points in between, birds too

Some parts were slow going. It is written in a relatively choppy style of short paragraphs in many of the chapters. I did enjoy reading it though. A very personal set of essays combining beginning birding with associated thoughts about life and death and points in between. I like that it was divided into months and that birds were specifically identified for each month. She provides many book references for further review and she has read a LOT of books.
