Good story, but it certainly is a short story.
By S. Sharpshair
Wen Spencer has created one of my favorite series with her Elfhome books. "Blue Sky" is a short story that takes place soon after the second Elfhome book, "Wolf Who Rules" and before the third book, "Elfhome". It introduces us to Blue Sky, a young half elf, and his older human brother, John Montana. John has kept Blue Sky's heritage a secret from the elves, but now the secret is out.

I bought the digital copy of this story after having just finished reading "Elfhome" (which was great). I was browsing the Internet for information on the next Elhome book, and ended up on Wen Spencer's Facebook page where she had posted a link to this and another Elfhome short story. Blue Sky was a prevalent character in "Elfhome", but I had been puzzled because I didn't remember him from the previous books (it's very possible that he had been a minor character that I have forgotten).

When I saw that there was a short story devoted to him, I snapped it up.

I enjoyed it. It was a fun story, and it did fill out Blue Sky's character, but I don't think I expected it to be as short as it was. It has a max location of 409 on my Kindle and only took about 15 minutes to read, and I'm not the fastest reader.

I certainly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the series, but it's is not required to enjoy or understand "Elfhome". It just fleshes out some of the history of one of its characters.

It's always the case . . .
By paapdaac
As is always the case, the only thing wrong with anything written by Wen Spencer is that it has to end. I think I would read a story by her written in Japanese, on tissue paper. I'd just have to figure out how to do it, LOL. This book, however, is set in the Tinker universe, and you really have to have read _Tinker_ and _Wolf Who Rules_ before you read this. You will never regret it if you do. Ms. Spencer is a masterful story teller, with a rare skill of building worlds that you must believe in. She writes character-driven novels with plenty of plot, never boring the more action-driven reader. The only fault is that her books, alas, must have not only a beginning, but an end. The Tinker series is a blend of genres. Probably modern fantasy best describes it, with elves, MP3 players, fight scenes, mystery, and a little science. Anyone otherworldly inclined should read them. These characters also show up rather prominently in _Elfhome_, without the backstory, so it's needful for the already addicted to read this too. Like I said, it's just too bad it had to end.

A short but sweet look into a half-elf's life
By Shay VanZwoll
Blue Sky is a sweet little short story about the love between brothers, as well as the love between the sekasha and their Domi.

John Montana has been protecting his little brother Blue Sky for seventeen years. But when the Wyvern find out that Blue Sky is a half-elf, he is ordered to bring his brother to the Wind Clan for raising. John doesn't want to give his brother up, so be visits Tinker, his long-time friend who happens to be the Domi and wife of Wolf Who Rules Wind, to see if she can help.

This book falls between the timeframe of Wolf Who Rules (Tinker Book 2) and Elfhome (Tinker Book 3) and it gives more detail into the lives of the sekasha. John has always been afraid of the sekasha, the warrior-class of the elves, and has instinctively given that fear to his brother, Blue Sky. Seeing the sekasha care for the ones they love gives both of them a new understanding of who the sekasha really are.

Even though this story only took about 20 minutes to read, I don't regret paying the $0.99 for it because it really does give an insider's look into the sekasha and also into how different an elven child is at age 17 compared to a human. It's a good bridge between Books 2 & 3 and I'm glad the I found this on Amazon.
