Immediate, practical, and productively challenging

Gay Hendricks has written a number of books that I have found incredibly helpful.
He is a vanguard scientist of human psychology, with tremendous insight. Perhaps the most important is that the foundation of all his advice is that we must first take 100% responsibility for ourselves before we can enact durable change to our inner life.
Many self-help books contain a lot of spiritual language. While I embrace that perspective, I find a lot of value in a more "fitness coach" approach to seeing the experience of our emotions in our body, without adding interpretation to it.
This book does have some "cheesy self-help" type language running through it. However if you are willing to look past it, the information and practices in this book are immediately transformative.
In my experience there is a big difference between books that enable you to feel hope, or get a sense of relief from the stories we tell ourselves, and ones that give you a primer on how to chart a new course.
This is that rare example of the later.

A Book with some great advice and initiatives

Actually this is a very good book, and interesting. I like Gay Hendricks books and articles as he and his wife are relationship experts. My interactions, when I remember these techniques, seem to have more positive results. It is difficult to remember something until you use the techniques more and more, but hopefully will become a habit for me. I am trying to follow his suggestions and am hopeful for positive results in all my interactions with friends, family, and coworkers.

This book is exactly what it proclaims to be, opening up an entirely new perspective for getting in touch with your own personal relationship and reactions to the people in your life. Very empowering to learn how to take ownership of your own feelings and the contribution they make to the way people respond/react to you.
